Type 2 diabetes: your daily plan
Food, movement, tablets and the numbers to watch
Diabetes is managed day by day: what you eat, how much you move, your tablets, and knowing your numbers.
Food: half the plate vegetables, a quarter protein, a quarter whole grains; water instead of sweet drinks; dates and fruit in small amounts.
Movement: thirty minutes a day, most days. Walking counts.
Numbers: fasting glucose 4 to 7, HbA1c below 7 percent for most people. Send home readings through the portal; a reading below 4 with sweating, shaking or confusion is a low: take sugar at once and tell the clinic.
Every year: eyes, feet and kidneys are checked. Look at your feet daily; see the clinic for any wound that does not heal in a week.
General information from the clinic; it does not replace a consultation. All leaflets
